Douglass Fisher, 93

Doug Fisher, 93, of Hayden, Idaho, passed peacefully Friday, April 28, 2017, at the Hospice House of North Idaho following a sudden departure from relative good health.

Born Wm. Douglass Fisher, Doug was the third child to Charles and Marion Fisher and raised in Fresno, Calif. Doug, his older sister, Fran (Manfredo) and brother Chuck enjoyed the outdoors fishing and skiing. In the ’40s, Doug served in the Coast Guard, then in the Merchant Marines. Doug married Betty Lee Fox in 1946 and raised five children. Prior to retiring in 1982, Doug worked in K-12 public education serving as a teacher, a principal, and finally as a District Administrator in the Personnel Division.

After moving to North Idaho in 1992, Doug was an avid member at Avondale Golf Club. He also served as a board member on the Hayden Lake Recreational Sewer District.

Doug and Betty and their Idaho family were early members of New Life Community Church in the ’90s and its outgrowth, Lake City Church, through the present.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, sister and granddaughter Mary Louise Fisher. He is survived by son Scott Fisher (wife Twink) of Chester, Va.; son Tom Fisher (wife Mary) of Whidbey Island, Wash.; daughter Nancy Wingren of Chicago, Ill.; son Dann Fisher (wife Anne) of Sebastopol, Calif.; and son Mark Fisher (wife Raelene) of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He also leaves 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services to be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2017, at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel, 373 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden. Viewing will be held before the service from noon to 2 p.m. Friday. Graveside to follow service at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.
