Cardinal men, women clinch NWAC league titles

LIBERTY LAKE — North Idaho College’s men’s and women’s golf teams wrapped up Northwest Athletic Conference championships Sunday with their play at the Bigfoot Invitational, hosted at MeadowWood Golf Course by Community Colleges of Spokane.
The NIC women women, led by Madi Brown’s third-place finish at 161, won the tournament by eight strokes over Columbia Basin. Katie Fyall and Mikal Jerman tied for fifth for the Cardinals at 166.
NIC’s men tied Bellevue at 580, but lost in a playoff when Bellevue played the first playoff hole in 1 under, and the Cardinals played it in even par.
Ross Gilbert of NIC shot an 8-under-par 134 to win medalist honors by six strokes.
Megan Cysewski of CC Spokane, formerly of Lakeland High, finished fourth at 81-82—163.
Next up for NIC is the Southwestern Oregon Invitational May 14-15 at Bandon Dunes in Bandon, Ore.
