DRIVERS: Now hear this

| March 26, 2017 1:00 AM

As the weather gets nicer and more people are out and about, I want to remind drivers when they are sightseeing on Dike Road/Rosenberry Drive the white line on the right side of the road is to help ensure the safety of everyone enjoying the sites by dividing the pedestrians from the vehicles. This is in fact the Centennial Trail.

When vehicles are parked in the pedestrian path or as I was told by one driver on the right shoulder, “I’m not parked because my car is running,” you are creating a safety hazard for all who have come out to enjoy the views. I watched while one idling car on the right made numerous runners, walkers, a family with a stroller and small children, and one person in a wheelchair go around them. This placed those whiling to be out of their vehicle at risk for being hit by someone driving where they belong.

The left side shoulder is for your car and though I realize there is 15 feet between the two white lines, I assure you the view is not much different and the walk across the street probably won’t kill you. Please help keep Coeur d’Alene safe and pedestrian friendly by obeying the clearly marked signs and using a little common sense.
