CLARKSTON — Trevor Luckey’s two-run homer capped a three-run seventh inning as the Coeur d’Alene Vikings beat Mountain View of Meridian 6-3 on Saturday at Clarkston High in the North-South tournament.

One batter earlier, Cameron Luckey scored the tiebreaking run. He advanced from first to third on a hit-and-run single by Noah Mayfield, and scored when the ball was misplayed by the Mavericks’ right fielder.

Thomas Robinson allowed two hits in six innings to get the win for Coeur d’Alene (5-1), which went 3-0 in the tourney.

“Thomas Robinson threw a great game,” Coeur d’Alene coach Nick Mahin said. “Our guys did a good job bearing down on every pitch. We learned when we bear down and compete, we do pretty well.”

Later Saturday, Coeur d’Alene was leading Clarkston 5-0 in the top of the second inning, and had the bases loaded when the game was called due to rain. Mahin said the Vikings hope to resume the game later this season.

Coeur d’Alene returns to action April 5 at home vs. Lakeland, starting at 3 p.m. The teams will complete a March 20 game suspended by darkness, with the game tied at 10 after 10 innings. Then, they’ll play a scheduled seven-inning game.
