CABINET: Qualified to decide
I have been reading about the Democrats’ apoplexy over the fact that many in President Trump’s Cabinet are wealthy business people and the fact that they are having problems divesting their portfolios in order to avoid any conflict of interest problems.
With respect to the first problem, what do the Democrats want in the Cabinet? A bunch of welfare dropouts, or someone just out of bankruptcy? I personally would prefer someone who has shown the capability of managing a large business and ability of making a few bucks in the real world rather than some politician who had been living off the generosity of the voters.
I realize that the requirement to divest investments is to prevent the possibility of their making some money off actions they might take in office which would enhance those investments. However, consider the cost and adverse financial results of these divestments and acknowledge that if they did not truly want to help the country they would not make that great a sacrifice. I believe many qualified individuals would not make such a sacrifice to take a cabinet position. George Washington was one of the wealthiest men in the country at the time of his presidency and he did not have to divest any of his holdings.
I regret to say that I wonder if the Democrats’ insistence on this divestment action is because they recognize that many of their party would take advantage of their position for personal financial gain.
What is the purpose of this letter? It is probably not worth the ink used to print it but I hope it will motivate at least one liberal to step back and consider his/her approach to today’s problems (only two of which are touched on above) and apply some common sense to the resolution rather than blindly following the liberal herd. Perhaps he/she might come to realize that the current liberal approach is in reality not the best idea for the country. The constant opposition without any rational reasons or facts to any and all ideas and proposals coming from the Trump camp damages the country and diminishes the position and strength of their party.
