LOSS: Nothing to cheer about
We are the proud parents of an awesome 22-year-old daughter with Down syndrome (special needs). Crystal has grown and matured with the support of this wonderful community, outstanding programs like Specialized Needs Recreation, Special Olympics and the truly amazing volunteers in both of these programs. Crystal has competed in many sports over the past 10 years, alpine skiing and swimming, just to name a few. We could go on and on about all the support and acceptance she has received.
Unfortunately, all experiences do not always turn out as well as you could hope for.
In a recent experience with Spotlight Cheer, the All Ability Cheer team was taken off the practice schedule and advised they would not be attending their biggest competition yet, in Portland, three days prior to the event. Ultimately, eliminating the team. This is very hard to understand and devastating for the athletes and their dedicated volunteer coaches.
One bad apple does not spoil the whole bunch. Thank you SNR, Special Olympics and the awesome volunteers for helping our children become the amazing people that they are.
