Coeur d'Alene tops Mead in soggy opener

PASCO Wash. — Levi Hean and Cameron Luckey drove in a pair of runs each for the Coeur d’Alene Vikings in a 6-5 win over the Mead Panthers on Tuesday at the Southridge Sports Complex.
“They both had great approaches at the plate, everyone did on the team really,” Coeur d’Alene coach Nick Mahin said. “We didn’t get cheated once and our numbers might have been greater had the conditions been a little better. But the guys didn’t use that as an excuse. They did a good job of being team-orientated and it was nice to watch.”
The game was moved from Coeur d’Alene to the Tri-Cities on Tuesday due to unplayable field conditions at Ted Page Field in Coeur d’Alene.
“It started sprinkling when the game started, but the guys did a good job of playing catch,” Mahin said. “We were lucky to get out of here with our first win of the year. It was really nice to be outside, no matter how wet it was.”
Hean and Trevor Luckey had two hits each for Coeur d’Alene, which opened a 4-0 lead after two innings.
Daniel Gunnerson earned the win on the mound for Coeur d’Alene, with Thomas Robinson pitching the final three innings to get the save.
