CDA: Broken Promises

| March 11, 2017 12:00 AM

Once again, the Coeur d’Alene School District is asking for the public’s help. They’re asking for $32 million for an M&O levy which will go to maintain the current education program, plus money for buses, purchasing materials for student growth and inflation costs and maintain class size reduction.

We have looked at the expenditures on the district website. There is a lot of fat that could be cut. A lot of spending that could be curbed. Everyone should check this out. They also are asking for $35.5 million for a bond which will build a new elementary school (on property we have yet acquired). Remodels of existing schools which they are only expanding to accommodate current enrollment, not future. When will it end? It won’t. This is only phase one of the project. They will need more money to complete both phases. This means another bond is in our future.

With the $30 million the school district receives from the public every two years through levies, the schools should be in tip top shape, supplied with up-to-date technology and school supplies/material.

Maybe what we need to ask them for is fiscal accountability and responsibility.

On another note, to Brian Wallace, you must not have much invested in our community if your comments to struggling seniors is that future students will pay into Social Security. Shame on you.

Please do your own research and educate yourselves.

We will be voting no.
