QUESTIONS: Answer these, please

| March 10, 2017 12:00 AM

Regarding the letter on March 3 by Vinetta R. Spencer concerning your testimony from your experience of wanting to be a boy. You stated “you were there.” Now doesn’t that sound a little arrogant? How could you say you were there when you stated “it had nothing to do with your sexuality.” Didn’t it occur to you that maybe this 9-year-old girl’s request did in fact have something to do with her sexuality?

I also share your experience of having an older brother whom I envied much like you for similar reasons. However, I NEVER once wished I was a boy. Furthermore, my parents were not so understanding as yours. Now, the questions I think we should ask ourselves are these.

Why do we create problems where there are none?

Where did we learn to pre-judge others?

Where did we learn to be so intolerant and biased?

Why do we want to ostracize or otherwise want to “heal” those people?

Why are we so insecure and fearful?

Why do we create divisions with an us vs. them or right vs. wrong mentality?

This is my position. I do not support Keith “Boe’s letter. I DON’T know why some children grow up straight and some don’t. Furthermore, neither does anyone else, including the scientists. We do not know why some children are born left or right hand dominance, or are autistic? In the meantime, let us accept people as they ARE and not as we think they SHOULD be.
