ELECTION: More info appreciated

| March 10, 2017 12:00 AM

It is good to see all the discussions on the school levies this time around rather than becoming aware of the vote while attending back to school night when passing the voting booths or the next morning reading the paper informing you your taxes are going up!

Reading all the pros and cons my first question is why do all the parents feel it the responsibility of the school and the homeowners through their taxes to provide their children with the right direction in life? Sorry guys, that’s your job, your responsibility. Unfortunately today it is felt that the kids need the designer clothes and fancy computers to make it in life.

Levy funding does not focus on the education of your children. A fancy environment does not help the teachers carve out the best pathway for your children. Remember the Little Red School House, reading books by candlelight. Support starts at home and carries through to school.

The majority of the current levy is for maintenance and operations. Where do these tax dollars really go? Homeowners, take a look at your property tax statement. It’s time we are given an open and transparent accounting as to where the money is really spent before we open our pockets yet again. Not on my dime this time. I have paid taxes for more than 50 years and it’s still the same complaint, more money, more money. I vote NO.
