CDA: Behind the 'no'

| March 9, 2017 12:00 AM

This is why I will never vote yes for another school bond.

Our son was going into his first year at KTEC last fall when a teacher in the automotive class physically threatened him, didn’t report it, we did, and through many phone calls and meetings with all districts involved, this teacher is still there. So much for the bullying issue and protecting our kids. Our son had a clear path which involved automotive and one school and one man, and three districts have derailed that.

The superintendent has taken a raise, even though the district needs money.

Also the superintendent and the school board made the decision to lease out a vital piece of Lakes Middle School property which is on the ballot for funding support even though when the renovations happened a couple of years ago, they went over budget.

The teachers have received a pay increase and an increase of pay to benefits, while most people are having to budget due to lack of pay, raises and benefits. But every time they ask, shortly thereafter they get something that agrees to them, and then the taxpayers get presented with a bond for “projects and cost of annual expenses for the district.”

Yes, it might get worse before it gets better, but we’ve lived with things like this for awhile, and maybe we can teach our kids something by saying no, and seeing what happens.

After age 18, they aren’t staying here anyway.
