BORAH: Where danger looms
My son attends Borah elementary and the back of my car has been hit, while parked, at least four times in two years.
I’ve contacted the city and keep hearing the word “zoned.” I’ve heard it so much it’s a four-letter word. Many handicap children/families come to Borah but it’s “zoned” for only one.
I spoke to superintendent Mr. Handelman on the phone about my concerns. He became rude and yelled while I was talking, stating he “doesn’t have time for things like this,” and hung up. At the Feb. 6 board meeting, I spoke but their general comment was education is paramount.
Section 17.44.050: CIVIC USES code MUST be rewritten logically! Look it up before voting in March! Going by number of classroom and bleachers is ridiculous. How old is this code? Will it take the fatality of a child to change it?
I CHALLENGE:
- School board members to watch the traffic before and after school.
- School board members to park their car in front of the school.
- Mr. Handelman to do both of the above, even though you told me you weren’t going to bother and didn’t have the time.
- Borah parents to voice their experiences and concerns.
I DARE the media to show the voters what’s going on.
William H. Borah was “the lion of Idaho” and we need to ROAR for Borah.
The school board’s message is, “Invest, Inspire, Innovate” but I think maybe the fourth is “Ignore.”
