SCOUTS: Boost for boys

| March 3, 2017 12:00 AM

This is in support of Keith Boe’s observations about a 9-year-old girl wanting to be a boy and joining the Boy Scouts.

I was there once, years ago, wanting to be a boy, and it had nothing to do with sexuality. My brother got to go to the barn with my dad and feed the cows, horses and sheep. Oh yes, and there were kittens and baby calves. My older sister was stuck in the house with supper dishes and kitchen cleanup. Who wouldn’t want to be a boy? Life can seem unfair to a 9-year-old.

My folks were very wise. They let me help my brother as much as I wanted to, milking, chopping wood, etc., and I did eventually do my share of housework. God saw fit to let me enjoy the joys of motherhood, and as an adult I decided being female was just fine. However, if I had to choose today between milking a cow and ironing a shirt, I’d rather milk a cow.
