SCHOOLS: Live within budget

| March 3, 2017 12:00 AM

We’re having another vote on a school bond issue and a levy. Millions of dollars are being asked for. Why do the members of the school board think the taxpayers have so much money to throw at the schools?

Oh, I know, it’s always easier to spend OPM (Other People’s Money). The school board should remember they receive plenty of funds from the state for schools and they should live within that budget.

The schools also plan these elections when many of the snowbirds have left for the winter and can’t vote. The county voters office and the school board do not send out any information about the election, such as when it’s occurring or a dialogue about the persons supporting these issues and those opposing the issues.

I guess they don’t want the public to really know what’s going on with the tax dollars.

I know, they will say, “It’s for the children.” How many times have we heard that from these same people who only want more money for the teachers and staff. They need to live within their budget just as we do to maintain our families. The parents should be making their children do well in school and if they want to upgrade the school, the parents should pay for it.
