DOLEZAL: Cease and desist
I read with dismay the cover story of Tuesday’s Press regarding Rachel Dolezal. Is her personal plight really any of our business? To report that she is almost homeless, unemployed and on food stamps while at the same time patting your backs that you broke the story back in May 2015; honestly, what were you thinking? The woman has already made it clear she identifies with black culture and feels like a black person; is that a crime? (Guess it must be in North Idaho.)
No wonder people still snicker about how “white” our attitudes are here and yet on the other hand, they say no more Aryan Nations. Well you can’t have it both ways people. Either you’re tolerant of others who look and act differently than you or you’re not. The next time one of my out of state friends asks if Coeur d’Alene’s reputation is deserved, I’ll stop soft pedaling and tell them the truth. And please, stop degrading Rachel Dolezal and her plight in life; just leave her alone!
If you must put gossip on the front page of the newspaper, at least make it a subject that doesn’t personally injure or “bully” someone who acts and thinks differently than most of the folks living here. Enough already.
