NOTICE FOR COMMENT USDA - Forest Service, Idaho Panhandle National Forests Bonners Ferry Ranger District Boundary County, Idaho Opportunity to Object - Deer Creek Project Mary Farnsworth, Forest Supervisor of the Idaho Panhandle National Forests has prepared an environmental assessment (EA), draft decision notice (DN) and finding of no significant impact (FONSI) for the Deer Creek Project. She has decided to implement alternative 2 as analyzed in the EA. The Deer Creek Project will conduct a variety of forest resource management and restoration activities on National Forest System lands within and around the Deer Creek drainage within the Bonners Ferry Ranger District. The project area centers on the Lower Moyie River corridor, north of Moyie Springs, Idaho, and encompasses portions of the Deer Creek, Skin Creek, Curley Creek, Fry Creek, and Meadow Creek drainages. The project area boundary encompasses about 31,000 acres within all or portions of T63N, R2E, Sections 12, 13, 14, 15,16 , 20, 22, 24, 25, 26, 28, 32, 34 and 36; T62N, R2E, Sections 2, 4 and 6; T63N, R3E, Sections 7, 8, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32 and 33, Boise Meridian. The selected alternative includes forest restoration actions including vegetation management and fuel reduction activities, as well as activities to manage noxious weeds, roads, recreation, and aquatic resources. The project will implement vegetation treatments on a total of about 4,218 acres. The treatments include seed tree and shelter wood treatments, dry site treatments, and precommercial thinning. Commercial timber harvest will be accomplished using ground-based systems, and skyline yarding (or a combination of the two). Road activities include road reconstruction and maintenance on about 50 miles of existing roads and road storage on approximately 10.4 miles of road.
