BIAS: Seek and find

| March 1, 2017 12:00 AM

Is the mainstream media biased? You can examine many issues but one of the most telling is gun control. How often does the press report positive news about the use of a firearm by a private citizen in self-defense or the prevention of a crime?

Recently Trump changed federal policy on transgender bathrooms. Like most outlets the BBC reported this news in a highly critical tone and at the end of their article actively solicited the input of just those negatively impacted. Why didn’t the BBC solicit input from both sides of the aisle? Bias?

It is not just the manner and character of the news reported. It is the article selected to be highlighted by online engines, the timing of their presentation and the volume of the follow-up coverage. Occupy Wall Street was portrayed as warranted protests while the Tea Party movement was portrayed as anarchy. In reality OWS was crime ridden, criminally uncivil and cost taxpayers millions while the Tea Party events obtained permits, paid their bills, cleaned up and broke few if any laws.

When Trump does do good is it reported? If reported will the report be short in coverage and short lived in public presentation and not pursued? How many know that because of Trump the IRS has chosen to not aggressively support the Obamacare tax penalty starting this year? That news was not reported in depth, not highlighted and not pursued… because it could be construed as good news about Trump.
