Talks to focus on Idaho extremist groups

| June 30, 2017 1:00 AM

Steve Shaw, author and professor of political science at Northwest Nazarene University, will speak at two Community Library Network locations about hate groups in Idaho. He will be at Hayden Library Wednesday, July 12, 6 p.m. and at Athol Library Thursday, July 13, 6 p.m.

In his presentation “The History of Extremist Groups in Idaho” Shaw will talk about groups and individuals who have tried to establish an Idaho base of operations from which to espouse their extremist political and racial ideologies. According to Shaw, these groups have not been successful in establishing such a base, but they should not be dismissed as merely lunatic or delusional. Their message does strike a responsive chord in many people. In his presentation, Shaw will place extremist group activity and messages in their political, theoretical, historical, and cultural context.

The presentation, sponsored by the Idaho Humanities Council, is free and no registration is required. For more information, visit CommunityLibrary.Net/Author.
