SITE: A municipal gift

| June 21, 2017 1:00 AM

I have enjoyed reading the recent articles and letters to the editor regarding the proposed acquisition of the Stimson Lumber mill site along the Spokane River. I love the notion of a “Splash of Blue” to remind us of the unique and abundant water we have here in North Idaho.

Our city leaders are considering the purchase of the mill site property and the opportunities for public access that it would afford.

Just think about the possibilities this acquisition would open up to the residents and visitors of Coeur d’Alene. Stretches of public walking and biking paths along the river, connecting us to our homes, restaurants and shops, public parks and beaches, and swimming holes.

They’re not making any more land and the land we’ve got along our amazing waterways is worth protecting for current and future generations. I urge our city leaders to consider this public acquisition as a gift to us all. It’s the right thing to do.
