Grove still in a good spot at

PGA Professional tourney

SUNRIVER, Ore. — North Idaho College men’s and women’s golf coach Russell Grove is in an eight-way tie for 11th after Tuesday’s third round of the 72-hole PGA Professional Championship at Sunriver Resort.

Grove, who previously played at Coeur d’Alene High and the University of Idaho, shot a 1-over-par 73 in the third round, and is at 1 under for the tournament, which began Sunday with a field of 312.

Rod Perry is at 7 under, and leads by three shots.

The top 20 finishers qualify for the PGA Championship Aug. 10-13 at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, N.C.

Last week, Grove won the Oregon Open Invitational in nearby Redmond, Ore.

Suarez joins EWU men’s

basketball staff as assistant coach

Bobby Suarez, who has spent the last four seasons at Florida State, has been hired by first-year head coach Shantay Legans as an Eastern Washington University men’s basketball assistant coach.

The 2012 graduate of Florida Gulf Coast will join veteran assistant David Riley and newcomer Nick Booker on Legans’ staff. The addition of Booker was announced on May 10 as he takes over as EWU’s associate head coach.

Suarez was assistant video coordinator for the Seminoles.

Suarez served as a director of operations intern and as a head student manager while at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Fla., from 2009-13.
