Edith Mae Winter, 79

Edith Mae Winter, 79, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away Dec. 10, 2016. Edith was born on June 5, 1937, in Fort William, Ontario, Canada, to Walter and Mary (Buchanan) Hunt. Edith spent her childhood years in Fort William before attending McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, to obtain her physiotherapy degree and work as a physical therapist. It was while attending the university that she met the love of her life, Richard Winter. They were married on April 5, 1958, in Fort William and enjoyed 58 years of marriage.

The day Edith and Dick got married, they moved to the United States and have lived in many places: Michigan, California and Idaho. It was while driving through Coeur d’Alene on one of their many trips, that they decided it would be a good place to set down roots. That was in 2001. Before settling in Coeur d’Alene, however, they spent 1 1/2 years traveling around the U.S. and Canada in their fifth-wheel RV.

Edith had a passion for reading and murder mysteries were her favorite. She enjoyed traveling as well. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Edith is survived by her husband, Dick; son Scott (Tamra) of Butte, Mont.; daughter Sue (Michael) Brook of Windsor, Calif.; son Robert of Rocklin, Calif.; and three granddaughters, Devon, Zoe and Baley.

A memorial gathering is planned for 1 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2017, at the family home with a bagpiper present to play two special songs. Yates Funeral Home is entrusted with the care of final arrangements. Please visit Edith’s online memorial at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
