RATHDRUM — Andrew Neilson singled in Ryan Pote with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, lifting the Northern Lakes Mountaineers past the Spokane Cannons 2-1 on Friday to conclude pod play at the Best of the Northwest wood-bat tournament Friday at Lakeland High’s Gorton Field.

Pote was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, then stole second.

Dylan Bradbury scattered six hits in a complete-game victory for Northern Lakes (7-4). He struck out three, and the lone run scored against him was unearned.

Northern Lakes’ second game of the day, against the Billings Royals, was rained out. The Mountaineers ended up 1-2 in pool play, and will play one final tourney game today at Gorton Field, against an opponent and at a time to be determined.

COEUR d’ALENE — Bennett Cunningham went 3 for 4, scored two runs and drove in one as the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen beat the Twin City Titans 4-3 at the Best of the Northwest wood-bat tournament at Thorco Field.

Earlier, the Lums fell 9-7 to the Northwest Blaze.

Brady Thompson had two hits and two runs for Coeur d’Alene (6-9) against Twin City, including a double in the fifth inning to score Kallen Langley and break a 2-all tie. Cunningham’s RBI single in the sixth scored Hunter Wabs and made it 4-2 Lums. Jack Bloom was 3 for 3 for the Lums, who finished 0-3 in pod play (the Blaze were in a different pod).

Brett Stapleton went 3 for 4 and scored two runs for Coeur d’Alene against the Blaze. Justin Bates had a pair of hits, and Kallen Langley drove in three runs.

“I like the way we swung the bats today,” said Coeur d’Alene coach Kevin Dunton, who praised the pitching of Bates, and the hitting of Cunningham, Thompson and Bloom. “I think they’re learning to execute the little things, and what it takes to win games.”

Coeur d’Alene concludes tourney play today at 3 p.m. at Thorco Field against a team to be determined.
