Annual tee off nears for sixth time

| June 13, 2017 1:00 AM

The sixth annual Scott Wemple Golf Tournament will be held Friday, July 28 at Avondale Golf Club in Hayden. Registration is now open online at northidahocasa.org. Cost per player is $100, $45 for Avondale members. A shotgun start for all participants will be at 1 p.m. with a banquet dinner to follow.

“Five years ago, friends gathered to play in Scott’s honor,” said Donna Wemple. “Scott and I lived on the 12th green and shared many memories on this course. My friends initiated this tournament to keep Scott’s memory alive and celebrate what he loved. The money raised during the first tournament helped me when I needed it most. Handing the tournament to North Idaho CASA to oversee, an organization that is close to my heart, makes me feel good.”

The tournament is now run by North Idaho CASA, but the funds raised will go both to CASA and to the Scott Wemple Memorial Scholarship Fund at North Idaho College. The NIC fund provides scholarships to students playing golf at the collegiate level.

CASA provides Court Appointed Special Advocates to advocate for child victims of abuse and neglect. The funds raised in the fold tournament will support the work of CASA Advocates to investigate child protection cases, prepare reports for the court, make recommendations to the judge, and help find these child victims safe and permanent homes. CASA relies on the contributions from the many generous individuals and corporations of North Idaho to serve more than 400 child victims each year.
