Silver Lake Mall

plans many changes

If real plans and rumors take place at Silver Lake Mall, the place should become much busier.

In definite moves, the Lost & Found Antiques & Treasures store will move across the hall to the former Hallmark store location and the Just Sports store will move north and across the hall to the former Abelskivers location.

Evidently the places are moving to make room for a new and huge Encore Shoes store. Open since 1960 with its headquarters in Concord, N.C., Encore Shoes has 1,131 stores in 45 states. Check www.shoedeptencore.com.

Another rumor is that a 300-employee call center will come into the major store space formerly occupied by Sports Authority in the south end of the mall. This would probably work because of the ample parking available. And all these people would really help the eateries in the mall. In this regard, the food court area may be remodeled to include a customer area than can include beer and wine. This would also encourage more eateries, including a pizza and pretzel place.

Any other spies are encourages to offer their “news.”

Now for the Tidbits

- Coinciding with the last word printed in the tip above, when the printed clues in the TV show “Jeopardy” include quote marks, the writers always put the comma behind the quote marks. Aaaargh!

- One handy word we don’t use much is the active verb “comprise.” A whole comprises its parts, which is handier than “is composed of” its parts.

- Avoid starting a sentence with “there” as it forces the boring to-be verb of “is” or “are.” “There are 50 states comprising the nation” can be “Fifty states comprise the nation.”

- Dairy Queen on Appleway has closed for a few weeks and will open with a new owner.

- The new building under construction near Cracker Barrel will include a Firehouse Subs eatery.

- The grand opening for Petal Pushers Nursery is this weekend at 201 E. 6th in Post Falls. Check www.bpetalpushers@cs.com.

- Opening soon will be Rustic Restaurant at 309 Sherman, Philly Express on Northwest Boulevard. El Taco Loco off Canfield Avenue and Castaway Cellars in the Plaza Shops downtown.

- A real headline: Miracle cure kills fifth patient.

- Velcro: What a ripoff!

• It sure would help if Atlas Way had an exit from I-90.
