Carolyn Rose, 88

Carolyn Ruth (Clement) Thienes Rose was born Nov. 20, 1928, in Springfield, Ore., and died Dec. 16, 2016, in Liberty Lake, Wash., from natural causes.

She graduated from Springfield High School in 1946 and attended the University of Oregon. She left college to marry Earl Thienes in 1947 and had four children, Judy McKenna, Sherry Carpenter (Don), Kevin Thienes (Ginny) and Janet Thienes. The family moved to North Idaho in 1964. Following a divorce in 1969, she enrolled at North Idaho College School of Nursing. After graduation, she worked at Kootenai Medical Center in ICU and CCU.

In 1971, she visited Springfield to attend her 25th high school reunion, where she parked next to an old friend, Howard Rose. They married in December 1971, and Carolyn gained three daughters, Lynn Davison (John), Sheila Ransom (John) and Liah Rose. Carolyn knitted sweaters for family members and a Christmas stocking for each child, spouse, grandchild and great-grandchild. She was a talented cook and baker, and was famous for her bread and sugar cookies.

In their retirement, Carolyn and Howard traveled extensively throughout the United States in their fifth wheel, visiting friends and family. They also took a Windjammer cruise along the East Coast. But their favorite place was the underground house they built on their wooded property in Garwood, Idaho.

Carolyn was a member of Anthem Church, two Bible studies and the Rimrock Ladies Club in Hayden Lake, Idaho. She spent her last two years in Liberty Lake near her daughters.

Carolyn was predeceased by her husband, Howard, in 2010. She is survived by her seven children, eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

There will be a celebration of life at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Anthem Church, 251 W. Miles Ave., Hayden Lake.
