Raymond ‘Skip’ Hunter, 72

Raymond “Skip” Hunter passed peacefully after his hard fought 14-month battle with cancer, surrounded by family and friends, on June 5, 2017. He was born Oct. 12, 1944, in Eureka, Calif.

He grew up on his family’s dairy farm in Northern California and remained there until after high school graduation when he joined the U.S. Navy in 1962 and was sent to Vietnam. He married Carol McClintock of Richmond, Calif., on July 4, 1964.

After his Honorable Discharge in 1966, he and his wife moved to North Idaho where he remained except for brief residences in Spokane, Wash., and Coos Bay, Ore., until his passing.

Skip was employed as a Brick Mason at Kaiser Aluminum for more than 31 years. He and Carol raised two sons, David (wife Jennifer) and Bobby (wife Marie); as well as one daughter, Tracie (husband Rob). Skip was a former member of the Post Falls Volunteer Fire Department for more than 14 years. He was also an active member of the VFW and American Legion. He was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Post Falls.

Skip loved to hunt, fish, bowl, golf, and most of all spend time with his kids and grandkids anytime he was able. He was know as “Pops” “Dad” or “Skipper” to more people than anyone could count. He had an infectious smile and kind word for everyone he would meet.

He is survived by Carol, his wife of almost 53 years; three children, David, Bobby and Tracie; grandchildren Breanna Tucker (husband Keith), Mischelle, Blake, Aleczander, Kourtenai and Kassawndra; as well as one great-grandchild, Declan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Howard; as well as one brother, Don (Buster).

There will be a viewing from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2017, at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls. A celebration of life with a “Please bring a side dish” potluck after the service will held at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Post Falls.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests all donations be made either to the American Cancer Society or North Idaho Hospice Care. The family thanks you all for all your thoughts, prayers and well-wishes. God Bless.
