'Fluidity of Gender' exhibit opens tonight at HREI

| June 8, 2017 1:00 AM

A new exhibit opens today at the Human Rights Education Institute in Coeur d’Alene.

“Fluidity of Gender” features sculpture by Linda Stein that, according to a news release, “explores the continuum between the binaries of masculinity and femininity, while inspiring the compassion, empathy and bravery it takes to become an upstander rather than a bystander.”

The exhibit opening, reception, and a brief performance by actors will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

HREI has extended its summer hours “to encourage the community to take advantage of this interactive, body swapping demonstration that allows us to examine gender stereotypes, teach the value of diversity and challenge our understanding that everyone is responsible for the well-being of others.”

HREI’s extended hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and until 8 p.m. on the second Friday of each month when Artwalk is held downtown. On Saturdays and Sundays, HREI will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

HREI is located near City Park at 414 W. Mullan Road, Coeur d’Alene.
