Lake City Center launches fan brigade

| June 7, 2017 1:00 AM

The fan brigade needs your help.

Lake City Center is once again collecting fans to help local seniors stay cool during the warmer months.

The fans are delivered through the Meals on Wheels program.

“Our elderly citizens have an increased risk of heat stroke and heat exhaustion, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Their bodies do not adjust as easily to changes in temperature,” said the center’s announcement of this year’s effort. “The seniors need to stay cool and hydrated and remember to eat.”

Meals on Wheels volunteers help the center make sure homebound seniors are able to beat the heat.

“A lot of our people are living in trailers and they are old trailers and don’t have air conditioning,” the announcement said. “Many are on limited income and just can’t afford to buy a fan. They are very thankful to receive a fan. It helps them so much.”

Donations of new or clean, gently used fans can be dropped off at Lake City Center, 1916 Lakewood Drive, Coeur d’Alene.
