| June 7, 2017 1:00 AM

Family Day in the Park and Fancy Flea Market will be held Friday, June 9, from noon to dark at City Park in downtown Coeur d’Alene.

This event features more than 70 organizations providing activities, giveaways and information for kids and families. Admission to the event and most activities are free.

Live entertainment is scheduled throughout the day at the Rotary bandshell including a Shakespeare performance, Highland dancers, Summer Theatre acts, and a live blues band. A food court, along with a gazebo bar, sponsored and hosted by Daft Badger and The Coeur Group, will also be available.

Other activities include the grand opening of the Coeur d’Alene Carousel with free carousel rides and a photo booth, skate park and bicycle club events, PaddleFest on the water with non-motorized vehicle exhibitions, heavy equipment interactive exhibit, “Reading in the Round” with free books, story times, and local celebrities including Mudgy and Millie, Cecil from NIC and Smokey Bear. There will be a petting zoo, carnival area with bounce houses, juggling, arts and crafts, puzzles, scavenger hunts, and face painting hosted by the Coeur d’Alene School District and Jump for Joy.

The event culminates in the evening with a movie in the park hosted by the Coeur d’Alene Police Department and the Human Rights Education Institute.

“The idea of a collaborative event, inspired by the former Kids Day in the Park, is years in the making and furthers the ‘healthy families and lifelong learning’ mission. This project truly demonstrates the spirit of all nonprofits working together to become stronger and better serve our community,” said Shelly Zollman, executive director of the nonprofit North Idaho Family Group and co-organizer of the event.
