Schell, McHugh receive military academy appointments

Mark Schell, of Athol, has received and accepted an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. Schell, in the 2017 graduating class at Timberlake High School, received congressional nominations for the academy from Sen. Jim Risch, Sen. Mike Crapo and Rep. Raul Labrador. Schell was also awarded a four-year U.S. Army ROTC scholarship to his choice of university: Gonzaga, Boise State or Arizona State as well as the Gonzaga Trustee Scholarship ($80,000 over four years). Schell served as Associated Student Body president this past year at Timberlake.

Mitchell McHugh of Post Falls has received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He received congressional nominations for the academy from Sen. Jim Risch, Sen. Mike Crapo and Rep. Raul Labrador. This past year, McHugh attended the New Mexico Military Institute, a military civil preparatory school, on a partial scholarship from the West Point Association of Graduates. While there, McHugh received the Superintendent’s Award for academic excellence, was recipient of the Matchin Award for outstanding junior college cadet for his troop, and earned the gold level of the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge. He is a 2016 graduate of Coeur d’Alene High School.
