Lums advance to semifinals at Warehouse tourney

SPOKANE — Zach Sensel scored on a wild pitch in the third inning and Cody Davenport held Gonzaga Prep to three hits as the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen beat the Bullpups 1-0 on Saturday to advance to a semifinal game in the Warehouse Classic at Gonzaga Prep later today.

“Cody was in command of his pitches and had excellent tempo on the mound,” Coeur d’Alene coach Kevin Dunton said. “He pitched out of a jam in the first inning and we played good defense behind him.”

Davenport finished with four strikeouts and two walks for Coeur d’Alene (5-3), which faces the Spokane Cannons today at 10 a.m., for a berth into the championship game, scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Gonzaga Prep.

In the first game, Brett Keesee hit an RBI double in a seven-run third inning, and added a two-run single in the fifth as the Lums beat the Spokane Expos 9-5.

Cody Davenport and Zach Sensel each had RBI singles in the third for Coeur d’Alene.

OROFINO — Jaret Taylor went 3 for 3 and Logan McDonald hit a two-run single to highlight a five-run first inning in the first game for the Mountaineers, who went on to sweep the Merchants in the regular season and class A North Idaho League opener.

In the second game, Joe Streitzel went 3 for 3 and Taylor was 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs for Northern Lakes.

Northern Lakes plays host to Moscow today in a league doubleheader at noon at Gorton Field in Rathdrum.
