A man and woman found dead in a Coeur d’Alene apartment Thursday, died by murder and suicide, said Coeur d’Alene police.

Detectives investigating the scene at a ground-level apartment in the Falls Creek complex on the 2800 block of North Julia Street made the determination early Friday, although the names and ages of the couple were not released pending the notification of next of kin, according to a Coeur d’Alene Police Department press release.

“The initial information we have indicates this was a murder/suicide and we don’t believe there is a continued threat to the public,” according to the news release.

Police responded to the scene at 4:50 p.m. Thursday after being notified of an odor coming from the apartment whose occupants had not been seen in more than a week.

Police said the couple found inside the apartment were believed to be the man and woman who lived there.
