Rathdrum today, Saturday

RATHDRUM — The third IronWood Throws Classic, which attracts the top men, women and high school throwers in the U.S. is scheduled to unfold today at the IronWood Training Center, 1620 Highway 53 in Rathdrum.

Today’s competition is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. with the javelin, followed by the discus.

Saturday’s competition is slated to begin at 2 p.m. with the shot put, then the hammer throw.

Admission is free. Concessions will be available.

Sign-ups open for

NIC Hague golf tournament

HAYDEN LAKE — Sign-ups are now being accepted for the North Idaho College Hague Memorial Cardinal Classic golf tournament. The tournament honors Denny Hague, who passed away in 2015, and his son, NIC alumnus and community supporter, Scott Hague, who died as a result of cancer in March 2005.

The four-person scramble tournament is scheduled for June 9 will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. at the Avondale Golf and Tennis Club. The registration fee of $100 per player or $400 per team includes golf, cart rental, NIC gift and dinner from Outback Steakhouse. Holes are also available for sponsorship for $50 and corporate team/hole sponsorships are available for $425.

There is a 32-team limit. Register by calling Patty Stewart at 769-3348 or emailing patty.stewart@nic.edu.

The competition will include prizes for various competitions. Proceeds benefit NIC athletics through the NIC Booster Club.

Kick times announced for

early season college football games

Idaho’s season-opening home football game vs. Sacramento State on Thursday, Aug. 31 will kick off at 6 p.m.

Idaho’s home game Sept. 9 vs. UNLV is slated for 6 p.m. The Vandals’ game the following Saturday at Western Michigan is set for 4 p.m. PDT.

All four of Idaho’s home Sun Belt football games — Oct. 7 vs. Louisiana-Lafayette, Oct. 14 vs. Appalachian State, Oct. 28 vs. Louisiana-Monroe and Nov. 18 vs. Coastal Carolina — are scheduled for 2 p.m.

Idaho’s game at Troy on Thursday, Nov. 2 is slated for 6:15 p.m. Pacific.

Four of Washington State’s first seven games are slated for 7:30 p.m. kickoffs — Sept. 2 vs. Montana State (FS1), Sept. 9 vs. Boise State (ESPN networks), Sept. 29 vs. USC (ESPN) and Oct. 13 at California (ESPN).

WSU’s Sept. 16 home game vs. Oregon State is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. (Pac-12 Networks).

Boise State’s season opener, Sept. 2 at home vs. Troy, is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. MDT (ESPNU).
