SENIORS: Deserve a break
Let me first say that education is important. You need to be educated to support yourself and a family. As a grandparent now, I can say that I supported my children in their school years in every way I could and I did it without levies. I am proud to say they all turned out very well, they can write their names and do math in their heads. Now therein lies the crux of the matter. I did it without extra school taxes or levies and I didn’t supply all their pencils, paper, Kleenex, etc. I agree with Stephanie Gossard, we did our parts, now take the monkey off our backs and let those who are using the schools do their part. Let them pay for the levies, the new schools, the extra activities.
Many states help their seniors in some way. New York, Georgia, Washington state, South Carolina, Delaware, Connecticut, to name a few, take all school taxes off the backs of seniors, age 65 and older with no children in the schools. Why can’t Idaho do this? I have reached out to many of our legislators to no avail. Raul Labrador wouldn’t touch it with a 10-foot pole. I am not sure why so few will help.
Idaho is not known as a senior-friendly state and this is one reason why. They do little or nothing for their senior citizens. I am asking every senior citizen who reads this to call their congressmen or women and let’s see if we can put this monkey on the backs of the users, the parents who use the system. Seniors need help and voting “NO” gets us nowhere when we are outnumbered! When almost half the tax bill is for schools, that we supported in our day but no longer use, it is really sad. And District 271 couldn’t care less. I sent an email to each board member, heard back from ONE!
Call your representative and ask for help NOW before the next vote!
