Three Cardinals finish second at Clackamas Open
OREGON CITY, Ore. — Bryson Beard (133 pounds), Brent Evans (157) and Alex Aguilar (174) each finished second for North Idaho College at the Clackamas Open on Sunday.
Thomas Stevenson (149) took fourth for the Cardinals.
“Overall, the highlight was we wrestled a lot better than we did yesterday,” said NIC coach Pat Whitcomb, whose seventh-ranked squad was throttled 37-4 by second-ranked Clackamas on Saturday. “We competed much better today, looked more like the team that wrestled against Eastern Oregon on Friday (in a 42-9 victory over the NAIA team).”
Garrett White (125) suffered a shoulder injury in a consolation semifinal on Sunday, and will be examined further when the Cardinals return to Coeur d’Alene, Whitcomb said. Trey Meyer (165) was pulled after one match, still feeling the effects of mono, Whitcomb said.
NIC plays host to NAIA Simon Fraser of Burnaby, British Columbia, on Thursday for sophomore night, then wrestles at the nationals-qualifying West District tournament Feb. 12 in Coos Bay, Ore.
