SCHOOLS: Too many taxes

| January 22, 2017 12:00 AM

Here we go again. I see in the news that another school district is looking for more money. Another levy or a levy to replace a levy. I think it is about time that the school district open their record books to show exactly where this money is being spent.

Transparency? Teachers say they don’t get paid enough; there isn’t enough money for programs; there isn’t enough money to pay the administrative persons; there isn’t enough money!

I have no children or grandchildren in school. Why is half of what I pay on my property taxes going to schools? How about an accounting of where and how this money is spent before you receive more. How can we expect the schools to teach the children if they can’t handle their own matters. I also hope that the day we vote on these levies is not the same day of back to school night which has occurred on several occasions. Just a little improper in light of the fact that some of the voting places are at the schools!

Another thought: Shouldn’t our senior homeowners be exempt from paying property taxes allocated to schools when we don’t use the system?
