Pennie St.Marie, 76

Pennie St.Marie, 76, passed away Dec. 28, 2016, at Oregon Health and Science University Hospital in Portland, Ore. She suffered a massive stroke on Christmas morning while visiting her children and grandchildren in Portland and Vancouver. She was born on Nov. 2, 1940, in Peoria, Ill., to Pierre and Mary Ludlam.

Pennie grew up in North Hollywood, Calif. She graduated from Polytechnic High School in Sun Valley, Calif., in 1958. After high school, she worked as a keypunch operator for the phone company.

Pennie married David St.Marie at the North Hollywood Presbyterian Church in North Hollywood. They were happily married for 56 years.

Pennie loved life in the country. She and Dave own 15 beautiful acres of rolling meadow in Harrison, Idaho, which she enjoyed riding her mower on for hours on end. It was her way of relaxation and she considered it therapy for the soul.

She loved wildlife, horses, country music, her family and God. Her five grandchildren were her greatest treasures!

She was a member of the Eastside Girls, a group of like-minded ladies who all lived out along Lake Coeur d’Alene’s eastern shore. These ladies knew how to have FUN!

She loved family time more than anything else in this world, just talking, playing games, and all of the laughter and good times that each moment brought. Her two eldest grandchildren always loved when she and Dave would visit. They would spend hours talking about the world, politics, conspiracy theories, history and life itself. They always said their grandparents had so many interesting stories, thoughts and anecdotes on life. The entire family will miss her glowing smile, outgoing persona and conviction for everything she stood for.

Pennie was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Pierre; and sister Susan Parris.

Pennie is survived by her spouse, David of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; her son, Eric (Michelle) St.Marie of Portland; son Chris (Kirsten) St.Marie of Vancouver, Wash.; her sister, Cherie Garland of Simi Valley, Calif.; her grandchildren (in order of age), Nicole, Zachary, Meghan, Christian and Leah St.Marie.

“God looked around his garden

And found an empty space

Then he looked down upon the earth

And saw your tired face.

He put his arms around you

And lifted you to rest

God’s garden must be so beautiful…

As he only takes the best.”

A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held this spring/summer in Harrison. The family will greet family and friends as well as spread Pennie’s ashes amongst her 15 beautiful acres as her final resting place. As it was here she loved to spend her time, and can do so for all eternity.
