Cards pin Eastern Oregon

LA GRANDE, Ore. — Bryson Beard (133 pounds), Brent Evans (157), Alex Aguilar (174), Levi Perry (184) and Jeremy Merryweather (197) had pins for North Idaho College in a 42-9 dual victory over Eastern Oregon University of the NAIA on Friday night.

“The guys did a good job of getting in the van, making weight and looked a lot better than (last Saturday in a 28-16 loss) against Great Falls,” NIC coach Pat Whitcomb said. “It was back and forth the entire time, with Trey (Meyer) getting a big win and Evans getting a pin and we started to go from there. It was a lot closer than the score says. Our upper weights did a good job and wrestled hard.”

NIC (6-4), ranked seventh in the latest NJCAA poll, travels to second-ranked Clackamas tonight.

“Tomorrow will be a good test,” Whitcomb said. “Those guys are wrestling really well right now, and between Saturday and the tournament on Sunday, we’ll get a lot of quality matches this weekend.”
