CELLAR: Liquor license lunacy

| January 18, 2017 12:00 AM

I was dismayed to read about the closing of The Cellar on Sherman. Another empty building on our main street in town that was a tax generator and job creator is disappointing. Further disappointing, the reason they are closing. Obtuse regulations that only allow one liquor license for every 1,500 in population, this measurement does not take into account the many visitors who come to our town every year and spend money on food and drinks.

Regulations such as this from a conservative legislature are mind-boggling. Aren’t they supposed to be pro-business, especially small business? This is bad for the economy of Coeur d’Alene and should be reformed with more common sense regulations regarding liquor licenses.
