Reuben Joseph Nettleton, 89, of Spirit Lake, Idaho, passed away Dec. 1, 2016, at Kootenai Health after a brief battle with kidney failure.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Agnes Nettleton; his three sons, Reuben Nettleton Jr., Wayne Nettleton and Steven Nettleton; his daughter, Laurie (Nettleton) Rivera; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved first daughter, Linda (Nettleton) Kelly.

Born in Colebrook River, Conn., he went on to be a Private 1st Class in the United States Navy and served as a gunners mate.

Reuben loved the outdoors and spent unending hours outside cutting down trees and grooming his property well into his upper 80s, much to his wife and daughters caring dismay. Nothing stopped Reuben and he was greatly cherished by all his family and friends.

No funeral service was held, in accordance to his wishes, but a private celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2017.
