TICKET: A final word

| January 15, 2017 12:00 AM

In response to Dave Tolle and Michael Quinn, it was my son who received the ticket for his rear license plate being covered by snow. He called me while he was pulled over and waiting for the ISP officer to run his registration, license etc. He was a nervous wreck because he couldn’t find the insurance card. I got him to calm down by explaining that if he’s given a ticket for no insurance it was no problem because we will just send a copy of the proof and it will be dismissed. He then asked if I’d stay on the phone with him and put me on speaker.

I told the officer we do have insurance, but my son had apparently misplaced it. He then told my son that the car he was driving should be registered in his name if he’s driving it (it’s registered in mine and my husband’s name). I told the officer that shouldn’t matter as long as he’s licensed and insured to drive it. He then said, well, it’s a civil liability to you if he gets in an accident. I said OK, we’ll consider putting it in his name.

The officer then said I’m not going to give you a ticket for no proof of insurance. My son kept saying “Thank you so much Sir. Thank you.” My son then feeling better and less anxious told me goodbye.

Next day after he gets home from work, I ask him if he put the new insurance card in the car. He says yes and oh the ticket is in there too. He brought in a ticket for $67 for snow covering the back license plate! I was angry and said we were fighting it. After calming down a few days I paid it so my son wouldn’t have to take time off from work.

So in answer to your questions as to my son’s attitude to the officer, I was on speaker phone during this encounter. He was VERY respectful and actually fearful. It’s over and paid now, but I needed others to know that my son was not rude or disrespectful in ANY form.
