SHOVEL: A little mercy, please

Sam Taylor, deputy city administrator, insists that the sidewalks need to be cleaned. I was wondering if the city can afford to show a little mercy in this area. After all, it is winter time, and when it gets down near zero it is hard to work outside. Plus, when the snowplows cover the sidewalks it often takes a pick and shovel to remove the snow.

Fresh snow is easy to remove, and as good neighbors people often work hard to get the sidewalks clean, but there are places where it is difficult. The Press picture on Appleway shows one example where it is going to be very hard to remove the snow. Just pick and shovel, or wait until next week when it is supposed to rain.

Seriously, folks, you can afford to show a little mercy at this time of year. We have all lived through some of these times in the past. Just one more sign that global warming is just part of the natural weather process and nothing to get too excited about.

Thanks so much.
