Troy M. Dyas, 53

Troy M. Dyas, 53, of Hayden, Idaho, passed away Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, at Hospice House in Hayden, after a brief illness. Troy was born on Dec. 17, 1963, in Shreveport, La. His parents were Grover Dyas and Carolyn (Minter) Dyas.

Troy grew up in Nacogdoches, Texas, where he attended school, after graduating he attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, where he worked as a prison guard at the Huntsville State Penitentiary putting himself through flight school.

Troy married Joni Wenstrom on Feb. 6, 1988, in Cason, Texas.

Troy earned many type ratings in several different aircraft. In the beginning, he flew fire patrol for the Texas Forest system, he later moved his family to Kansas where he worked for Koch Industries and was a pipeline pilot for them and later working his way into their corporate Jet as a corporate pilot, he later went on to work for Raytheon Travel Air, and his final job was with flight options, where he flew many different types of jets for the company.

Being a pilot with many jobs, the family moved to many states over the years, but fell in love with Idaho where they still reside.

Troy Loved to fish even though the “Big One” always got away, He was also a “World War II” buff and could talk for hours about any plane or battle that took place or plane that was in operation in that war. But his true passion was flying. Ever since he was a young boy, he knew he had to fly!

Troy was a member of the International Brotherhood Of Teamsters Local 1108.

Survivors include his wife, Joni of Hayden; son Joshua of Hayden; daughter Kaeli and son-in-law Robert Holden of Hayden; two grandchildren, Ayden Holden of Hayden and Lilly Holden of Hayden; and a brother, Gary Dyas who lives in Cason.

Although Troy is no longer flying, we know he's soaring on a “Higher Plane” and will always be “watching our 6.”

No services are planned at this time. A memorial in the spring on Lake Pend Oreille will be announced at a later date. Yates Funeral Homes has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements.
