Clyde Martin, 61

Clyde was born Dec. 12, 1955, in Spirit Lake, Idaho, to Tony and Lucy (Ross) Martin, he had five siblings and resided in Post Falls, Idaho. He was taken to his Heavenly home on Feb. 17, 2017.

Clyde was known as a “community celebrity.” Wherever he went, someone knew him. He knew no strangers. He enjoyed many activities such as dancing, bowling, bicycling, snow shoeing, fishing, boating, parties of any kind, spending time with people, watching cowboy movies, a variety of sports, holidays, picking his guitar, Special Olympics, dining out as often as he could, and his most favorite thing to do was work.

Clyde started working at Tesh Inc. in the Vocational Center in 1979. Over the past 38 years, he performed a variety of jobs; packaging, assembly, shredding and mail prep to just name a few. Missing work was not an option and “retirement”…well that was out of the question. The term “work” in Clyde’s mind also included attending classes where he was able to improve on his life skills and learn new ones. In addition to this, Clyde had opportunities to socialize, enhance friendships and participate in a variety of activities with his friends in the activity center. Once upon a time, he won a dance contest. Clyde rarely missed an opportunity to be involved in fun times and often became the life of the party.

Clyde loved to go to church; attended Christ the King and often went with staff members to other churches.

Clyde had a special place in his heart for his family, friends, staff, coworkers and caregivers. He was especially fond of his brother, Jesse. Clyde welcomed any chance of spending time with him.

Clyde had a keen sense of humor, enjoyed life to the fullest and accepted whatever came his way. Clyde got great pleasure out of teasing and joking around with others. He was loved by so many and definitely had an impact on those who were blessed by the opportunity to share life with him. Even in his last days, he lathered others with joy and tears — including nursing staff and doctors at Kootenai Health.

The Clyde Martin we know and love will be sorely missed.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2017, in the Tesh Inc. Learning Center, 3327 W. Industrial Loop, Coeur d’Alene.
