Charles Richard Luther, 69

Charles “Charlie” “Chuck” Luther, joined the stars Feb. 20, 2017, at 5:17 p.m. after a short and valiant battle with pulmonary fibrosis at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, Ill.

Born to Bettie and Charles Luther Sr. in Minnea-polis, Minn., Feb. 21, 1947. Charles was one of five siblings: Joann, Pat, Doug and Pam all survive him.

He grew up in Davenport, Iowa, where he attended Assumption High School and graduated with honors in 1965.

He then attended University of Iowa where he met Lois Lund, with whom he would have two children, Sena and Miro, before moving to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 1982. Lois and Charlie had a third child, Orin, in 1983.

Charlie worked for nearly 15 years at J&D Stereo, as well other jobs while finishing his master’s degree in education, but will be most remembered for fixing things for others. He loved to tinker and apply theory to audio, electrical and mechanical things. He loved music and all things Volkswagen. He was just as happy discussing music theory or philosophy as he was fixing a car and his witty sarcasm will be missed.

Charlie later met Susan Thompson in Coeur d’Alene and had a daughter, Claire Michelle, in 1991. He lived and worked in Coeur d’Alene until 2009, when his father’s health called him back to Davenport, Iowa. Charlie would reunite with his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Viner, shortly after moving back to Iowa and was able to live out the remainder of his life within her love.

Charlie became a grandfather when his daughter, Sena gave birth to Orion, in 2010 and Liam in 2015.

Charles was influential to many people and will be greatly missed. There will be a celebration of his life at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017, at 105 N. Lakeview Drive, Coeur d’Alene. Anyone who would like to share a memory are invited to attend.
