Freshmen lead Timberlake to IML title

| February 15, 2017 12:00 AM

BONNERS FERRY — The Timberlake Tigers got three big wins in a row — all from freshmen — and beat the Bonners Ferry Badgers 54-30 on Tuesday night to capture their first outright Intermountain League wrestling title since 2006.

Isaiah Evans, normally a 106-pounder, bumped up to 113 and pinned returning state placer Tyler Beazer in 5:28.

Louis Powell bumped up a weight to 126 and won by pin, and Jakob O’Hanlan bumped up a weight to 132 and also won by pin.

“It’s cool, because we’re doing it with pretty young wrestlers,” Timberlake coach Kelly Amos said.

Next up is the 3A District 1 tournament Saturday at Lakeland High.
