Chiefs rally over Prince George

| February 14, 2017 12:00 AM

PRINCE GEORGE, British Columbia — Keanu Yamamoto and Jaret Anderson-Dolan scored in the third period, both on power plays, as the Spokane Chiefs rallied for two goals in the final period and beat the Prince George Cougars 4-3 on Monday in Western Hockey League play before 4,442 at CN Centre.

Anderson-Dolan leads Spokane with 6 game-winning goals this season.

The momentum swung after Prince George had a goal waived off in the first period for too many men on the ice. Had the goal stood, the Chiefs would have been looking at a 4-1 deficit.

Spokane, which won for only the fourth time in 27 attempts when trailing after two periods this season, is now 24-23-6-3, 57 points, and trails Portland by eight points for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Kailer Yamamoto evened the score 1-1 in the first with his 32nd goal of the season.

After two Prince Cougar goals, Hudson Elynuik scored on a power play with just under 6 minutes to go in the second period, moving Spokane closer at 3-2. The Chiefs play again in Prince George tonight at 7 p.m.

The Chiefs’ Dawson Wetherill stopped 39 of 42 shots. Prince George outshot the Chiefs 24-7 in the first period.
