STOP: Police, do something

| February 12, 2017 12:00 AM

Having read the Sunday article “Red Means Stop,” I have to add my frustration to those of Jerry Weaver and countless others in our community regarding the blatant red-light runners.

My husband and I have counted up to five cars continuing through a red light making a left turn off Appleway and onto Northwest Boulevard. I reported the intersection to the police last fall and nothing has changed. We’ve seen Coeur d’Alene police cars in various lanes at this same intersection when another vehicle would run a red light and they did nothing.

Last Sunday we were southbound on Ramsey Road at Prairie, stopped at the light. A Kootenai County sheriff’s vehicle was in the northbound left-turn lane of Ramsey when a pickup went flying west-bound on Prairie through a full red light. We were hoping to see the pursuit start, but the sheriff’s vehicle simply turned left and continued at a normal speed.

We grew up learning defensive driving but this is getting ridiculous. Will it take someone getting killed to prioritize this problem? Probably, and just pray it isn’t you or someone you love.
