Jack met the love of his life, Dollee (Mead), at North Central High School. They were married for 63 years. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Edna (Nelson) Meredith; sister Doris (Elwood) Sims; and brothers Bob and his wife, Esther, and Jim. He leaves his sister-in-law, Betty Meredith; and many nieces and nephews. Surviving are his children and their spouses, Scotte (Renae), Diane Gordon (Jack) and Craig (Margaret); and his adopted son, Brian Burbank. He was Bompa to his six grandchildren, Andrew, Mark, Kaarin, Rebecca, Ian and Angus; and six great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Eliza, Alan, Lienn, Wendy and a little one on the way. He was Uncle Jack to his numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Jack was born on May 15, 1933, in Eau Clare, Wis. He grew up in Spokane from age 2. He attended Garfield Elementary and North Central High School.
He had polio at age 13 and wore braces, and used a cane and crutches the rest of his life, but few would call him handicapped.
Jack made his living for a few years as an auto mechanic and then as a certified orthotist. He became the owner of Riessen’s Orthotics and Prosthetics and was the Advisory Board chairman for the Orthotics and Prosthetics program at Spokane Falls Community College, which he helped found. He was regional president of the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Assn. and was a national examiner. He was also president of Tote Washing Systems.
Jack served his Lord in leadership at several area churches as an elder, church chairman, deacon and small group leader, including 1st Evangelical Church, Spokane and His Place Evangelical Free Church, Post Falls. He served on the boards of Pacific NW District Ev. Free Church, Northern Mountain District Ev. Free Church and NW Christian Schools (chairman). He and Dollee spoke at numerous marriage seminars across the nation and in some foreign countries and mentored countless couples and individuals.
He loved to hunt, fish, play golf, camp with family and spend time at his cabin on Deer Lake. He was known to wander the backroads throughout the area either alone or with his buddies. A friend gave him a plaque “Not all who wander are lost.” He helped found an annual car show in Post Falls at His Place Church.
Jack leaves a legacy of service for Christ and lives touched by his life, demonstrating how to live the Christian life.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017, at His Place Ev. Free Church, 3079 E. 16, Post Falls, Idaho.
In lieu of flowers, Jack asked that memorial gifts be sent to Open Arms Pregnancy Center in Coeur d’Alene or Union Gospel Mission in Spokane or Coeur d’Alene.
