Louie-McGee leads Lake City past Lewiston

| February 8, 2017 12:00 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — Kenny Louie-McGee scored 25 points as the Lake City Timberwolves knocked off the Lewiston Bengals 68-63 in 5A Inland Empire League boys basketball Tuesday night.

Kodie Kolden had 11 points and five assists for Lake City (13-5, 2-4 5A IEL), which moved into a tie for third with Coeur d’Alene (8-9, 2-4). Duncan Butler had nine points and 12 rebounds, Louie-McGee seven rebounds, Kyle Manzardo six boards.

“It’s a huge win for us,” Lake City assistant coach Kelly Reed said. “Kenny played an excellent floor game. I thought we did a much better job controlling tempo than we did in Lewiston (a 69-57 loss). We did a better job containing (Trystan) Bradley on the boards, keeping him from getting second-chance points.”

Riley Way scored 18 points to lead Lewiston (11-7, 2-3). Bradley, who scored 33 against Lake City the last time, finished with 13.

Lake City, done with league play, plays host to Sandpoint tonight at 7.

Lewiston visits league champion Post Falls (14-2, 5-0) on Friday in the final 5A IEL game of the season.

COEUR d’ALENE — The visiting Knights went on a 9-0 run to start the third quarter, opened a 20-point lead and held off the host Panthers for a nonleague win at Holy Family Catholic School.

Senior forward Alex Pakootas (18 points) and junior guard A.J. Bighead (15 points) led the way for Lakeside (6-9), while Bryar Sanchez added 10 points.

Charter (2-10) was led by Jacob Rutherford’s 17 points, Josh Stellflug’s 10 points and Nick Judd’s 12 rebounds.

“We came out flat (after halftime), they scored nine unanswered points and really took control of the game,” Panthers coach Steven Zamora said of Lakeside’s third-quarter surge. “But our kids kept fighting and finished strong. Matt Phillips (six points, four steals) gave us a ton of energy off the bench.”

Charter returns to action tonight at Kellogg. Lakeside travels to Wallace on Friday.
